The ECS Trainee Electrician Card is aimed at individuals who are part of a formal electrical training route and working under supervision. It helps demonstrate that you are on a structured path towards becoming a fully qualified electrician or ECS Gold Card holder, while allowing you supervised access to UK construction sites.
Many ECS applications are processed in around 10–15 working days after ECS receive all correct documents. Exact processing times are controlled by ECS and may change.
The £79 fee is for our application support service only. ECS and test providers may charge their own separate fees for the ECS HS&E test and for issuing the physical ECS card.
We can provide a free practice mock to help you prepare for the ECS Health, Safety & Environmental Assessment so you know what to expect on test day.

Once ECS receive a complete and correct application, many cards are processed within roughly 10–15 working days. This is a typical example only – ECS may change their processing times depending on workload and internal policies, and any missing information can cause delays.
It is a multiple-choice test that checks your understanding of health, safety and environmental rules on UK sites. A valid pass is normally required before ECS will issue most ECS cards, including Trainee and higher-level cards.
Trainee cards are often linked to the length of your training programme and may need to be renewed or upgraded as you progress. The exact validity period and renewal rules are defined by ECS/JIB and may be updated, so always check the expiry date printed on your card and any current ECS guidance.
While holding a Trainee Electrician Card, you are expected to work under appropriate supervision from a suitably qualified electrician, often someone holding an ECS Gold Card. The exact level of supervision will depend on your skills, the task and your employer’s policies, but you are not treated as a fully qualified electrician.
