Frequently Asked Questions – ECS Approved Electrician Gold Card
Can I work on commercial and industrial sites with an ECS Approved Electrician Gold Card?
Yes. The ECS Approved Electrician Gold Card is widely recognised across commercial, industrial and
domestic sectors. It shows that you meet the industry benchmark for working unsupervised on a wide
range of electrical installations and maintenance work, subject to your employer’s policies and
contract requirements.
Do I need to be a Registered Electrician as well?
Many new applicants for ECS Gold Cards are now expected to sign up as ECS Registered Electricians,
which means holding the latest BS 7671 qualification and agreeing to a code of professional practice.
You should check the current ECS guidance when you apply, and we can guide you through the process.
Can I upgrade from Electrical Labourer or Experienced Worker to an Approved Electrician Gold Card?
Yes, many electricians start with an Electrical Labourer or Experienced Worker card
while they complete their NVQ Level 3, AM2 and BS 7671. Once you meet the full requirements,
you can apply to upgrade to an ECS Gold Card and, where eligible, to Approved Electrician grade.
Can you guarantee my ECS Approved Electrician Gold Card will be issued?
